Walt Nunnally is a professional Mental Health Therapist as well as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. He holds a Masters of Counseling Degree from Bradley University and has 35 plus years of experience working with children, adolescents, and families.
Walt opened the Illini Family Counseling Office, in June of 2008 desiring to serve and stengthen individuals and families throughout Central Illinois.
Walt is a popular speaker and has led many school, community, and professional workshops on a variety of topics. Walt has also offered professional trainings for schools and businesses as well.
In addition, Walt works collaboratively with groups and community coalitions in Tazewell and Woodford Counties designed to confront challenges and provide resources to strengthen our local communities.
Walt continues to work with local schools as an Early Intervention Specialist. He impacts the lives of more than 2500 students per year through his work in our elementary, junior high, and high schools.
Walt also provides parent support groups and parent training through “Real World Parents” events held throughout the year.
“Real World Parents Support Groups” provide an opportunity for parents and caregivers to come together for support, encouragement, to find ideas and to explore available resources to help them more effectively confront the challenges of parenting and are offered at “no charge.
The “Real World Parenting Workshop” is offered several Saturdays throughout the year and empowers parents to strengthen their parenting skills as they come together to learn new techniques and strategies in order to better confront negative behaviors and attitudes at home.

For the past 15 years, Walt has had the privilege to support our Military men and women and their families through a program sponsored by the Department of Defense. He has been to Fort Riley in Kansas, Fort Bragg and Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina, Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota, the 182nd Airlift Wing in Peoria, as well as with many National Guard and Reserves throughout Illinois and Iowa. He especially enjoys working with Camps for our military kids for the Illinois National Guard and Camp Corral.
Walt also works with local Police Departments to coordinate the “Second Chance Youth Program.” Designed as an alternative to the traditional juvenile justice system, the 2nd Chance Youth program provides accounatibility and support for individuals and families while changes are being made. Walt’s professional memberships include, The American Counseling Association, The National Board of Certified Counselors, The American Association of Christian Counselors, and The Chi Sigma Iota Professional Honor Society. He was selected in 2011 as a NAMI Tri-County Community Service Award Recipient.
Originally from Alabama, Walt moved to Illinois in 1991. He has 8 children, 17 grandchildren, and 3 dogs. He enjoys Alabama football, playing the guitar, spending time with his family, attending Highlands Community Church, and his country home.
